From the kitchen table of LokalBond co-founder Baver
There’s a reason why Turkish tea is served in small, tulip-shaped glasses: it’s meant to be refilled, savored slowly, and shared. In Turkey, tea isn’t just a drink — it’s a daily ritual. It’s how we welcome guests, how we pause life, how we say “let’s talk.” And in Istanbul, a city layered with stories and strangers, it’s one of the most beautiful ways to meet people.
But let’s back up.
My name is Baver. I’m one of the co-founders of LokalBond, a platform that brings people together in private homes across Turkey through food, art, and culture. I also happen to host my own experience — something I call a Social Tea Tasting. And while yes, we sip different kinds of Turkish tea — from bold black brews of the Black Sea to delicate herbal blends passed down in Anatolian kitchens — this isn’t just about flavor notes. It’s about connection.
🍵 Why You Should Try a Turkish Tea Tasting in Istanbul
Many visitors to Turkey get their first taste of çay (Turkish tea) in a busy café or after a meal. But fewer get to experience it the way we locals do: at home, in conversation, with stories flowing just as freely as the tea.
In my sessions, we explore:
The history and meaning of Turkish tea culture
Different regional teas (yes, not just black tea!)
Herbal teas like sage, linden, and rosehip with deep cultural roots
How tea became Turkey’s most beloved social drink
Whether you’re a tea connoisseur or just curious about local tea traditions, you’ll get more than a tea tasting — you’ll get context, stories, and a warm cup in your hand.
🤝 Looking to Network or Make Friends in Istanbul?
Now, here’s where it gets really interesting. The thing that makes my tea tasting sessions best tea tasting in Istanbul is also the networking aspect of it — but not the awkward kind.
Before each session, I ask my guests a simple question: What are you into? Startups? Art? Language exchange? Sustainable fashion? Whatever it is, I try to invite a few locals from my own network who share those interests. So you’re not just meeting locals in Istanbul — you’re meeting people you’re likely to click with.
In the past, guests have found:
New friends to explore the city with
Collaborators for creative projects
Business contacts and startup mentors
Fellow expats and travelers with shared passions
If you’re new in town, working remotely, or just feeling socially curious, this is a more relaxed, human alternative to networking events in Istanbul or loud meetups.
🌍 Tea and Connection, LokalBond Style through the Best Tea Tasting in Istanbul

At LokalBond, we believe magic happens when strangers sit at the same table. Whether it’s over a home-cooked meal or a pot of steaming tea, we try to create moments where stories unfold naturally.
My tea experience is just one example of that. It's a space where Turkish culture meets modern community-building — where you might learn the meaning behind a certain tea ritual while swapping life stories with someone you just met.
You don’t need to be a tea expert. You just need to be curious — and maybe a little thirsty.
